Navy Win U23s Inter Services Championship

The Navy have won the U23’s Inter Services Championships.

After defeating the RAF in their first fixture, a win against the Army in Aldershot sealed the title.

A goal from Peter Wright and a double from Ben Brierley confirmed their 3-0 victory, making the Navy champions for 2019.

The Army are usually strong at home in Aldershot but nobody picked up Wright’s midfield run and he slotted home the opener after just six minutes.

The Navy celebrated as a team for their third goal of the game.

The Army tried to force a way back into the game and had some success from set-pieces.

Unfortunately for them, Lloyd Gardiner’s free-kick thumped back off the crossbar while Sean Thomson forced a good save from Navy goalkeeper Jamie Stuart minutes later.

The game was one of few chances though and it took until the 73rd minute for the Navy to grab their second goal.

Brierley will be hoping to be included in the senior squad’s Inter Services next month and he did his chances no harm with a strike from 30 yards out.

It got even better for Brierley in injury time.

The Navy man did well to curl the ball into the top corner from long distance.

The final whistle confirmed the win and the celebrations from the Navy players showed what it meant to them to be crowned champions.
