Royal Navy men dumped from Hampshire Cup in bruising loss against AFC Totton

Watch: The Royal Navy senior men's team take on AFC Totton in the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup quarterfinal.

The Royal Navy senior men's team are out of the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup after suffering a bruising 5-0 quarterfinal defeat to Southern League side AFC Totton.

In a wet and windy Snows Stadium in Totton, the Navy were braced for a tough game against a home side who always draw in a healthy crowd of spectators, no matter the weather.

AFC Totton, nicknamed The Stags, looked to be in complete control of the game in the first half, with a goal by Remus Nixon at the 23-minute mark.

Things didn't get better for the Navy as Jack Wright brought down Totton's Leon Maloney inside the box, handing The Stags a free penalty.

Maloney dusted himself down and converted the penalty, giving The Stags a 2-0 lead going into half time.

In the second half, the Navy hoped to claw back the 2-0 lead that their opponents had built up, but Totton looked primed to keep their first-half momentum going.

The Stags continued to build up their lead with further goals from Ethan Taylor, Luke Hallett and a brace from Maloney seeing them clear off into the distance with a 5-0 lead.

By then the Navy knew there was no way they were turning their game back around in their favour in time.

At the final whistle, AFC Totton leaped into the semi-finals of the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup with a commanding 5-0 win as the Navy were sent packing from their first Hampshire Cup tenure in the quarterfinal stage.

Having been booted from the tournament, the Navy will now turn their attention to the Inter Services Championships in March.
