Former Royal Artillery soldier Tom Broadbent has signed for League Two Swindon Town.

Tom Broadbent served as a Lance Bombardier in the Army after signing up when he was 19-years-old.

After playing regularly during a six-year career in the military, the defender began his football career in non-league before signing for professional outfit Bristol Rovers in July 2017.

During a year at Rovers, the centre-back made 36 appearances and now the 26-year-old has made the move to the County Ground as a permanent signing.

Speaking to Swindon Town’s website, the player discussed his happiness at the move.

He said: "“I’m happy to be honest – I just can’t wait to get playing. It’s a lovely ground and a big club and it should be in a higher league.

"We’re not far off the play-offs so hopefully we can have a good second half of the season and challenge.

"I play every game the same whatever crowd there is so I just get my head down and play.

"I just love playing football – I played a lot of non-league and a lot in the army as well but it’s nice to be out there at a good level."

After his winning debut against Tranmere, Broadbent took to Twitter to reveal his joy with the result.
