HMS Seahawk manager Chris Fairey has praised his "outstanding" players after they won the 2020 Royal Navy Cup final.

A penalty shootout victory over HMS Heron was enough to win Fairey his first Navy Cup.

The experienced coach has been involved with Navy football for more than three decades and in his final match, he managed to win the trophy that had been eluding him.

In a post-match interview, he said: "I've been in the Navy for 38 years and represented the Navy senior side all my career just about.

"I've got the Inter Services - I've done all that but the Navy Cup I've never won. To win it as a manager is extra special, especially with these boys. They were outstanding today."

He added: "I must say both sides put on a tremendous game out there today.

"Overall, it was a tough game, a game of two halves almost. I’m extremely happy with the effort the boys put in at the end."

HMS Seahawk captain Sam Humphries lifted the trophy for his team.

HMS Seahawk captain Sam Humphries was given the honour of lifting the trophy and was pleased to put last year's loss to the Royal Marines behind him.

He said: "I'm over the moon to win this.

"We came close in the final last year and lost in the minute of extra time against the Royal Marines so we're over the moon to win it this year."
