Infantry take men's Army Inter Corps Hockey title after dramatic penalty shuttle

Watch: The Infantry men wins the Army Inter Corps Hockey title whilst the Adjutant General's Corps wins the women's title.

The Infantry have won the men's Army Inter Corps Hockey Finals after beating the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) in a title that was eventually decided on penalties.

The match started off well forthe Infantry, gaining a 3-1 lead after sweeping goals by Grenadier Guardsman Tom Goodwin.

But as the Infantry seemed to have full control over the narrative, REME managed to get their stick on the ball to work their way back into contention with just minutes to spare.

After losing possession of the ball the Infantry saw their REME rivals equalise at 3-3, meaning the title would be decided on penalty shuttles, a hockey equivalent to a penalty shootout.

In the end, it was REME who succumbed to the pressure after two missed attempts on goal, as skipper Jordan Morris took the last shot for the team.

Knowing he had to score, his shot was deflected by keeper Malcolm Head, securing Inter Corps victory for the Infantry.

Reacting to the Infantry's win, goal-scorer Guardsman Tom Goodwin said that coming away with the trophy is a "great achievement" for the team.

He said: "I feel like we play much as a unit as well because we are spread all around the country, so to come away with the trophy is a great achievement for all of us."

The Infantry's win comes after many took part in a two-week build-up for the King's coronation, which Guardsman Goodwin says adds to the end of a "great week overall".

He said: "Coronation on the weekend and a lot of build-up for that for two weeks.

"It's nice to receive a medal for that and obviously a trophy and a medal for winning here, so it has been a great week overall."

Meanwhile in the women's final, the Adjutant General's Corps (AGC) defended their title with a 2-0 win over the Army Medical Services (AMS).

A goal by Georgie Edwards and a late penalty by Heidi Jelley steered home AGC's win for another Army Inter Corps title.
