UKAF women's hockey victorious over Hockey for Heroes in Remembrance match
The UK Armed Forces women's hockey team have enjoyed a comfortable win in their annual Remembrance fixture against a team from Hockey for Heroes.
The UKAF team scored five goals to beat Hockey for Heroes 5-1, including a hat-trick from Army player Sergeant Hannah Kenyon.
Hockey for Heroes, which comprises a number of serving personnel, veterans and civilians playing for different clubs, was founded in 2011 and works to raise funds for the Help for Heroes charity through the sport of hockey.
The UKAF side were on red-hot form in the opening quarter with Army player Lieutenant Ella Bromley scoring first.
The Royal Navy's Surgeon Lieutenant Isabel Austin soon followed up with another goal for the UKAF team to put them up 2-0.
Army player Sgt Kenyon collected an assist from the RAF's Air Specialist 1 Rebekah Douglas to score her first goal of the game.
It wasn't long before Sgt Kenyon followed that up with another goal to complete UKAF's dominant first quarter with a 4-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the team from Hockey for Heroes were beginning to find their footing and began taking the challenge to UKAF.
But nothing was stopping Sgt Kenyon who, once again, was on hand to collect an assist from Surg Lt Austin to complete her hat-trick.
After half-time, Hockey for Heroes began to grow more into the game after a slow start in the first two quarters.
After successfully preventing more UKAF goals, Hockey for Heroes would finally score in the dying minutes of the game, denying UKAF a clean sheet with a final score of 5-1 in this year's Remembrance match.
After the game, UKAF head coach Flight Lieutenant Luke Hansford said: "The main thing for me is I'm just really proud of the girls.
"But knowing what it means deeper down as well and knowing what it means to the opposition who've turned out against us, as well, I thought it was a really positive day for everyone involved.
"And I think everyone walks away, regardless of the score, having had a really positive experience remembering those that we remember."
