Army ready for 'different threats' the RAF pose ahead of Inter Service title bid in Gloucester
Off the back of one of the most memorable Army v Navy fixtures in recent memory, the Army men don't have a lot of time to celebrate their astonishingly close victory against the Navy.
They now have to reset as they prepare to launch their Inter Service title attempt against the Royal Air Force at Kingsholm Stadium, the home of Gloucester Rugby.
"It was a fantastic game of rugby to watch," said head coach Lieutenant Colonel Tim Osman.
"I said to many of the guys and to [Navy coach] Dave Pascoe afterwards as well that it was a shame that somebody had to lose it, such was the nature of the thriller."
And win it the Army did, disposing of the reigning champions in the final minute of the game with a Vereimi Qorowale try that won them the match by a one-point difference at 43-42.
And with the Navy challenge out of the way, the Army will hope to carry their momentum from Twickenham all the way to Gloucester.
The Army need to either win or draw against the RAF to take the Inter Service title, and Lt Col Osman predicts that his side will face a team that pose a different threat to what they faced against the Navy.
He said: "They are a different team, they bring different threats and like the Navy they are well coached as well. JC [Justin Coleman] has done a great job with them.
"They have had a three-week break now between fixtures, so we'll see how that pans out, sometimes that can be a real advantage and sometimes it might add a bit of rust rather than freshness, so we shall see.
"And yes, different threats all across the park, the line out threat, the driving wall threat, their backs are quick and agile, and they just pose different threats, different personalities, we know them well as well as we did with the Navy, but yes it’s going to be good."
