Army women come from behind to retain Inter Service title against RAF

Watch: The RAF and the Army women battle for the Inter Service title in Kingsholm Stadium

The British Army women have continued their dominance in the Inter Service championships with a commanding 19-36 win against the Royal Air Force at Kingsholm Stadium in GLoucester.

The Army saw off a determined RAF team who came into today’s Inter Service curtain-closer looking to stop the Army in their tracks the same way they did when they won in 2019.

The Army got off to a strong start with an early try by Sarah Batley, but the RAF soon responded with England hooker Amy Cokayne levelling the score before Annie Forbes made it 7-5 with a conversion.

The RAF continued on a blistering run in the first half with Katheryn Robinson and Welsh international Carys Williams-Morris with another conversion by Daisy Fahey to widen the score to 19-5.

But the Army bounced back with a brace of tries by Hannah Gilmour to bring themselves back into play, making it 19-17 at half-time.

In the second half, Army came firing back with a try by Sally Bellhouse, giving the Army back the lead 19-22.

And the Army began to show why they’ve been the dominant team in the Inter Services championships for the past two decades, with team captain Jade Mullen and lock Heidi Silcox each scoring tries and Lou Dodd adding the extras.

Despite the depth of experience within their team, the RAF were not able to respond to the Army’s storming performance in the second half and went through the second half scoring no tries.

The Inter Service trophy remains in Aldershot as the Army retain their title with a 19-36 win over the RAF with Sally Bellhouse being named Player of the Match.
