Five-try Daisy Aspinall keen for UKAF ruthlessness in all IDRC games after 105-point win

Five-try Daisy Aspinall keen for UKAF ruthlessness in all IDRC games

After a thumping 105-0 win over Tonga, the UK Armed Forces players are in high spirits but determined to push on in the tournament.

The match against Tonga may have been a game that UKAF were favourites to win, but the mentality to punish any mistakes from their opposition is something that coaches and key players have focused on this week in training.

RAF star Air Recruit Daisy Aspinall scored five times in Esher and her opening try came early in the game which is something UKAF wanted.

"It was [a plan] 100%," said Aspinall. "Throughout our training this week and in the training room, we said 'it doesn't matter what the scoreline is. If we haven't scored or if we're winning by loads, we just want to keep putting the pressure on'.

"From the off, we were like 'let's get as many points as we can' and we did that, so yeah, very happy."

Air Specialist Class 1 Daisy Fahey also had a key part to play in the game, scoring 25 points with the boot and a try.

She's keen for UKAF to keep up this level of performance throughout the tournament.

"The first game of any tournament is always a bit of a difficult one," she said.

"We just wanted to go out there. The last couple of games, we've been building, and I think today, it's all started to come back together.

"I can only imagine that Huddy [UKAF head coach] is going to have us doing double tackles on Monday morning. No recovery.

"We put on a good show today, and I hope that we just continue to build throughout the tournament."
