France score last minute try to beat Fiji in dramatic IDRC 2025 final and retain crown
There was late drama in the 2025 International Defence Rugby Competition final as Mélanie Bousquet's try saw France steal the win away from a heartbroken Fiji at Kingsholm Stadium.
The 14-12 win means the French, who defended stoically throughout the game, retain the IDRC trophy they won in New Zealand in 2022.
It looked as though Fiji's physical might would steer them to victory as they led heading into the final minute, but Bousquet's moment of glory defined the unpredictability of an incredible final.

In a match that went through vicious rainstorms and glorious sunshine, two early penalties from France captain Mélissa Bergeron had the reigning champions in a winning position.
A third penalty kicked through the posts by Bergeron made it 9-0 but Fiji hit back with tries either side of half-time.
Vitalina Mirini crashed over before the break and Mereani Wakolo's try just minutes into the second half looked to have been the deciding moment for the Fijians.
However, the French never gave up hope that their opportunity would come and Bergeron's clever kick found the run of Bousquet who dived over to deliver another IDRC win for the champions.
