Army rugby's Guardsman Manuqalo Komaitai scored her first World Cup try for Fiji in their second pool match against Scotland in Salford.

The Fijiana number 8, who only started playing rugby after joining the British Army in 2021, scored under the sticks at the 51-minute mark after Fiji returned for the second half 17-5 down to the Scots.

But despite that valiant try from Gdsm Komaitai, the Fijiana's game would end with a 29-15 loss to Scotland, which they now have to count alongside their 65-7 loss to Canada in their World Cup opener.

It was a better night, however, for Scotland and RAF Rugby's Flying Officer Sarah Bonar, whose 29-15 victory against Fijiana confirms their place in the World Cup quarter-finals, their first since 2002.

Fg Off Bonar, who is playing in her second Women's Rugby World Cup, started for Scotland on the second row.

Both Scotland and Fiji will travel to Sandy Park in Exeter for their next group matches, with Scotland taking on Canada and Fiji taking on Wales.

RAF teammate Flight Lieutenant Amy Cokayne did not feature for the Red Roses in their thumping 92-3 victory against Samoa.
