Royal Air Force Rugby Union players Amy Cokayne and Sarah Bonar have kickstarted their Women's Six Nations campaigns in style, with both scoring tries in their opening clashes.

Amy Cokayne, who plays for England, helped the Red Roses begin their title defence with a resounding 38-5 victory over Italy at LNER Community Stadium in York.

The Red Roses got off to a strong start in the opening 40 with Cokayne grabbing England's fifth first-half try.

England later struggled to extend their lead in the second half, but a final try by Emma Sing capped off the Red Roses' perfect start to their Six Nations campaign.

John Mitchell's side are seeking a fourth successive Grand Slam and an unprecedented seventh Six Nations title in a row.

They will head to the Principality Stadium on 29 March to face Wales.

Elsewhere, Sarah Bonar started at home for Scotland in a nail-biting encounter against Wales to kickstart their Women’s Six Nations campaign at the DAM Health Stadium in Edinburgh.

But after a strong start for their Welsh rivals, Scotland finally managed to break through the red wall with Sarah Bonar driving low to the line to score their only first-half try.

But Scotland managed to turn their game around and just about held on for a 24-21 win and their third successive victory over their strong Welsh rivals.

Bonar and her Scottish teammates will head across the channel for their next clash against France at the Stade Marcel Deflandre on 29 March.
