Royal Artillery Crowned Inter Corps Champions

The Royal Artillery have won the Army Inter Corps Championships in a repeat of the 2018 final.

The RA beat Royal Logistic Corps 27-6 in Aldershot.

Last season’s final finished to 9-3 to RLC, but they were unable to defend their title despite starting the game as the stronger side, taking the lead through Connor Hull's early penalty.

The Artillery came back into the game through Richards' unconverted try, but Kotobalava’s roaring run allowed Mossi Nadauable to dive over for RLC minutes later.

Connor O’Reilly latched on to Sai Vunivesilevu’s chip for a converted try which put the Artillery back in front with a 12-10 scoreline.

Sam Montegue's second half red card ended any hopes of an RLC comeback.

The best try of the game came from Harry Whittington and turned the final to the Artillery’s favour.

He picked the ball up in his own half and went on a mazy run past many defenders. The team recycled possession well and worked the ball across to Vulikijapani who dotted the ball down with ease for an unconverted try.

In the second half, RLC poured forward in an attempt to get back into the game. Another Hull penalty was converted and it meant the Artillery lead was cut to just four points.

Unfortunately for RLC, their game-plan unravelled when lost a man to a red card. Sam Montegue was caught swinging an arm at Ken Dowding and that violent conduct meant the Artillery had a man advantage.

They used the extra space to score the match-winning try. O'Reilly went over for a converted try and despite both sides exchanging penalties, the Artillery held on to win the championships.
