For British Armed Forces personnel visiting or stationed in Gibraltar, the infamous Rock Run carries as much prestige as it does apprehension.

Covering roughly three miles of terrain with 1,300ft of elevation, the iconic race serves up a classic test of grit, endurance, and camaraderie.

But for those who make it to the summit, the reward is an unforgettable view of the sun rising over the Rock, coupled with a chorus of Barbary macaques offering their celebrations.

The most recent group to lace up their running shoes at the crack of dawn was the ship's company of HMS Queen Elizabeth, as the carrier arrived in the British Overseas Territory amid a 12-week deployment around the UK and northern Europe.

Footage shared on X shows personnel of HMS Queen Elizabeth tackling the 350m climb, which features gradients of up to 1-in-4 (25%) in places, although paved surfaces at least offer some support along the challenging ascent.

It perfectly states in the video: "There's the sweat, the tired legs, and the moment you wonder why you signed up for it in the first place.

"But that's what makes it special. It's about pushing yourself, backing the person next to you, and being part of something bigger than yourself.

"And when you reach the top – you've earned every step of the way."
