HMS Queen Elizabeth arrives in Gibraltar as she continues her 12-week deployment
One of the Royal Navy's two aircraft carriers has arrived in Gibraltar as she continues her 12-week deployment around the UK and northern Europe.
HMS Queen Elizabeth's crew of more than 800 personnel will embark on training operations during the deployment, exercising across the full spectrum of modern naval warfare to ensure that the carrier is ready to respond to emerging threats.
Her port call at the Rock follows her historic visit to Belfast, which was the first time a Royal Navy aircraft carrier had visited the Northern Irish capital in more than 60 years.
The training in the autumn – split between UK waters and the eastern Atlantic – will build the foundations for more complex exercises coming next year, including Nato's Steadfast Defender.
The 65,000-tonne vessel is currently on standby to serve as Nato's command ship for the Allied Reaction Force, having assumed the role earlier in the year.
