Royal Navy women ready to 'close the gap' at this year's Inter Service Championship
The Royal Navy women's rugby team hope to "close the gap" between the three teams at this year's Inter Services championships as they prepare for a crunch fixture against the Royal Air Force.
The team will travel to Plymouth where they'll face their RAF rivals at Brickfields Stadium on 20 April, which will be broadcast live on the Forces News YouTube channel.
In their first year under the leadership of new head coach Chief Petty Officer Sarah Jenkins, they will be heading into this year's Inter Services with fresh faces and new ambitions.
"My biggest vision is to close the gap, close the gap between all three teams," CPO Jenkins explained.
"I think last year we slowly started to do that against the RAF and, of course, scored a try at Twickenham.
"And I think going forward that we could probably close that gap even further with the RAF and if not take the win which is what we all want really," she added.
In last year's Inter Services clash against the RAF, the Navy fell short of a victory by 10-17 on a pitch bogged down by mud.
And with the prospect of facing very similar conditions at Brickfields again this year, Navy hooker Sub-Lieutenant Rebecca Addis said she's "really excited" for another potential mud bath against the RAF.
She said: "I'm really excited for it, we were so close last year as well.
"I really like muddy pitches so it's going to be like a nice little mud bath.
"I think we've come on leaps and bounds, and knowing how the RAF play from last year as well I think we can definitely use that to our advantage."
