An F-22 Raptor fighter jet has been involved in an incident that saw the aircraft collapsed on the ground during an Air National Guard training exercise in the United States.

One pilot was involved in the "mishap" but no injuries were sustained, said the Georgia Air National Guard's 165th Airlift Wing.

The commander of the Air Dominance Center, Colonel Stephen Thomas, said: "Thank you to all the first responders who arrived on scene.

"Sentry Savannah is all about showcasing readiness and today's mishap affirmed our airmen's ability to respond at a moment's notice."

The 165th Airlift Wing added that the incident is under investigation.

"Mishaps" involving an F-22 have not been a rare occurrence.

In March 2022, a Raptor's landing gear collapsed when it landed at Eglin Air Force Base - and this came after a similar accident a year earlier at the same base.

F-22 Raptors had only returned last year to Sentry Savannah following a five-year hiatus.

This was due to a failed take-off in 2018 that saw one aircraft slide about 6,500 feet down a runway before stopping, which an investigation put down to pilot error.
