The advanced Vector drones being used by Ukraine that can fly without pilot or operator
Ukraine will soon benefit from the arrival of more Vector drones that can fly without a pilot or operator.
Created by Germany's Quantum Systems, the Vector drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), part of an unmanned aerial system (UAS), and it can be used to gather intelligence using autonomous technology and a powerful camera.
Thirty-three Vector drones are currently being used in Ukraine, with Quantum Systems confirming that 105 more will be sent to help the Ukrainian armed forces in their fight against invading Russian forces. The first package of UAVs was ordered by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in August 2022.
The drone's ability to fly in difficult terrains, combined with its low noise emission, makes it ideal for a wide range of non-invasion aerial roles, says Quantum Systems, including intelligence gathering and reconnaissance missions, while remaining undetected.
And, according to its creator, it carries an encrypted mesh IP link that can send video streams up to 15km away and has the power to fly for up to 120 minutes at a time.
When disassembled, the Vector drone can be safely carried by just one person and is easy to put together when needed.

Weighing only 7.4kg, the drone can be carried as a backpack as well.
The Vector drone can also be deployed without having a planned mission beforehand, which means it can be used quickly at any time.
The machine's software also allows its path to be adjusted during flight.
Florian Seibel, co-founder and CEO of Quantum Systems, said: "We are honoured to be able to help Ukraine with the defence of their country and we are committed to continuing to provide the highest-quality systems to their forces.
"Our belief in democratic values and the challenges faced by the Ukrainian soldiers daily, only motivate us even more so and speed up our development processes."
