Himars time: Ukraine shows off weapon system in action against Russia

Footage has been released of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (Himars) in action in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine's top ground forces commander Oleksandr Syrskyi published the video, which according to the Colonel-General shows the American-supplied HIMARS firing at Russian positions in eastern Ukraine.
Developed in the 1990s for the US Army, Himars is a light multiple rocket launcher system and is one of the most significant weapons sent by the West to Ukraine since the start of the war.
Col Gen Oleksandr Syrskyi, along with the footage, said on his Telegram channel (in Ukrainian): "Today, Ukrainian artillery proves its effectiveness. It destroys thousands of units of soldiers and enemy equipment.
"Along with foreign weapons, Ukrainian soldiers skillfully combine domestic artillery systems that affect hostile objects on the battlefield.
"The 27th, 43rd and 107, jet and artillery brigades have repeatedly proved their productivity. They provide powerful fire support during various military operations.
"I am proud of our artillery! Glory to Ukraine and our heroes!"
The US is sending additional military kit to Ukraine including more ammunition for the Himars multiple rocket launcher as part of a $2.6bn package.
Announced on Tuesday, the support includes $500m in equipment from existing US stockpiles, plus $2.1bn on new kit that Washington will buy from manufacturers.
The US has provided more military support to Ukraine than any other country since Russia launched its full-scale invasion more than a year ago and this latest package comes ahead of expected spring offensives.
