French navy torpedoes retired ship in demonstration of submarine's new capabilities

Watch: French Navy sink decommissioned vessel with heavy torpedo

In an impressive demonstration of the power of the heavy F21 torpedo, the French Navy destroyed a decommissioned vessel using the weapon system fired from a nuclear submarine.

The hull of the former Premier-Maître L'Her (F792) ship was the target for the torpedo which was fired in "conditions close to operations."

The nuclear submarine proved its new capabilities, as the footage shows the uncrewed vessel explode from beneath the waves when it was struck by the 200kg weapon.
