Mine-related civilian casualties continue to be reported daily in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

The latest Defence Intelligence update from the MOD has said that the "most affected areas are Kherson and Kharkiv oblasts: areas Russia has previously occupied".

It added: "With the arrival of spring, and more people involved in agricultural activities, the risk of civilian mine incidents will increase."

According to the MOD: "Over 750 mine-related casualties among civilians have been reported since the start of the invasion – one in eight has involved a child. It will likely take at least a decade to clear Ukraine of mines."

In March, Ukrainian forces themselves had implemented the use of mines – they successfully slowed Russian advances by adopting the use of remote anti-armour mines, the MOD said.

The MOD added Ukraine's adoption of Remote Anti-Armour Mine systems (RAAM) was contributing to heavy Russian losses.

Last year, a Jack Russell terrier became an internet sensation after working to sniff out explosives in Ukraine.

Patron, which is Ukrainian for 'cartridge', is the military mascot of an explosives unit from Chernihiv.

The dog had reportedly by April last year helped clear more than 90 explosive devices and landmines.
