Nato could have done more to prevent Ukrainian war, says Secretary General

Nato’s Secretary General believes the alliance could have done more to try and prevent Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 if Kyiv's call for arms had not been met with reluctance.
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that at the time the organisation was hesitant to provide weapons that Kyiv had asked for before Russia's invasion due to fears of escalating the situation.
"Now we provide military stuff to a war - then we could have provided military stuff to prevent the war," said Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Reportedly, the Secretary General said an end to the war in Ukraine would be achieved only at the negotiating table.
However, he believes that more could have been done to prevent the conflict in 2022 if Nato had been more willing to arm Ukraine at the time.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the country has received numerous military support packages from Western nations.
Kyiv is currently awaiting the decision on whether long-range Western missiles, particularly the British Storm Shadow, can be used by their Armed Forces inside Russia’s border.
