Ukraine's first lady warns her countrymen face mortal danger if West backs down over aid

Ukraine’s first lady has warned that Ukrainians face "mortal danger" if the West backs down over its financial support amid the ongoing war with Russia.
Olena Zelenska told the BBC people in her country would be left to die if the world got tired of providing support.
Speaking to Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, Ms Zelenska said: "We really need the help. In simple words, we cannot get tired of this situation, because if we do, we die.
"And if the world gets tired, they will simply let us die."
Her comments came as Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron continues his diplomatic mission to the United States where Republicans in the US Congress last week blocked a key bill that would have provided billions more in funding for military assistance.
Lord Cameron warned them that denying Ukraine fresh financial backing would be a "Christmas present" for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Western allies are growing increasingly concerned about the crucial support for the fight against Russia.
US President Joe Biden is battling to get his fresh military and economic aid package for Ukraine through the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.
Efforts are intensifying to shore up support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a possible return of Donald Trump to the White House in the next election raises concern.
