On the streets of Ukraine as Kyiv braces for a Russian invasion

A former Royal Marines Commando who is in Ukraine says morale among the country's military in the capital is high, but is predicting a "bloody battle" if Russia invades Kyiv.

Emile Ghessen is now a documentary maker and has been in the Ukraine capital for four days, after getting the train there from Poland.

He said: "The Ukrainians are very much fighters, they feel like they will win this war if the Russians come in."

The independent documentary film-maker and director has been able to see first-hand the defences put into place in the city.

He said: "Here in Kyiv, there are so many troops here, so many defences, that it will be a bloody battle.

"They know urban warfare is hard to fight. If the Russians roll their tanks into here, it's going to be very bloody for the Russians."

Across his social media platforms, the former commando has been posting updates during his time in Ukraine.
