Western allies are in "dangerous territory" due to the current level of their commitment to Ukraine, according to a Scottish National Party MP.

Dave Doogan told the Commons: "The West must act decisively and with endurance to thwart Putin's plan.

"We are approaching dangerous territory with regards to the West's ongoing support for those that fight for our democracy and the rule of law in the trenches and farm buildings of eastern Ukraine."

Mr Doogan added: "We see Putin's plan, to sit in wait while democracies lose interest in Ukraine, come to fruition, in politically motivated budget wrangling in Washington, in the clientelism of Hungarian President Viktor Orban, in the exhausted replenishment of the West's defence industry and in the vagaries of the West's media cycle."

He was speaking amid calls from both the SNP and Labour for the Government to reveal its future military aid plans for Ukraine.

The action plan for Ukraine 2024 has still not been published. Defence minister James Cartlidge responded to questions by re-stating that the UK will continue to support Ukraine.

Members of the two parties have urged the Government to set out what the UK's support for Ukraine will look like next year as the war with Russia continues.

The UK gave £4.6bn of military aid across 2022 and 2023.

A trade mission the UK sent to Ukraine took place last week, which aimed to boost defence cooperation between the two countries.

Shadow defence secretary John Healey said: "At the very time Ukraine needs unfailing support, the UK is falling behind other nations.

"No new UK weaponry since July. No UK military funding for next year. No 2024 plan for Ukraine. When will the military aid funding for next year be agreed? Will it be multi-year?

Mr Cartlidge responded to the criticism and said British is "delivering action every week in Ukraine, the amount of ordnance we have supplied and continue to supply, particularly in terms of air defence, which is now increasingly crucial, is huge.

He also faced questions if the UK had been able to replenish its stocks of weapons after donating them to Ukraine.

"We have to keep supporting Ukraine but yes, absolutely, we put the additional money there from the budget to support replenishment of our own armed forces."
