A House of Dynamite: Three other military films to watch from director Kathryn Bigelow

Kathryn Bigelow's latest film, A House of Dynamite, imagines a scenario where a single intercontinental ballistic missile is fired at America and analyses how the respective agencies and people would deal with the impending disaster.
The blockbuster's cast features leading actors, including Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation, Luther), Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, Mission Impossible), and Jared Harris (Chernobyl, Mad Men).
With the film being released on Netflix, BFBS Forces News has looked back at the award-winning director's past military films.
The Hurt Locker (2009)

The tense and claustrophobic Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker, which starred now-global superstars Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie, follows Staff Sergeant William James (Renner) as he is parachuted into an army bomb disposal unit in Iraq.
Mr Mackie, who plays Sergeant JT Sanborn, must manage Staff Sgt James's casual attitude to disarming improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around Baghdad during the invasion of the country.
Zero Dark Thirty (2013)

The gripping and earthy Zero Dark Thirty, nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year at the Oscars, takes the viewer inside the life of CIA analyst Maya, played by Jessica Chastain, as she and her team try to find Osama bin Laden after 9/11.
The film, which tracks the 10-year pursuit of the al-Qaeda founder, ultimately shows how US Navy Seal Team 6 killed him in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
K-19: The Widowmaker (2002)

Liam Neeson, long before Taken, and Harrison Ford, who scooped an award for worst fake accent for his performance, starred in Kathryn Bigelow's movie about a Russian nuclear submarine that breaks down on its first journey, causing the crew to attempt to save the stricken Hotel-class vessel and avert a nuclear catastrophe.
