Watch: Texas governor deploys 400 extra troops with C-130s and Chinooks to secure border

Hundreds of specially trained National Guard soldiers have been deployed to the US border with Mexico by Texas governor Greg Abbott.

In addition to the 400 extra personnel, the deployment will also see C-130 aircraft and Chinook helicopters "coordinate with US Border Patrol" to prevent anyone from crossing the US border illegally.

Governor Abbott said in a statement he will be working closely with Trump's administration on border security and the troops would be joining "thousands of Texas National Guard soldiers already deployed".

Governor Abbott said to support the mission to secure the Texas-Mexican border, he "deployed the Texas Tactical Border Force, comprised of hundreds of troops, to work side by side with US Border Patrol agents to stop illegal immigrants from entering our country and to enforce immigration laws".

A separate video posted to the X account of Governor Abbott shows at least four Chinook helicopters taxiing at an airbase.

His post read: "The Texas Tactical Border Force deployed to the Rio Grande Valley to collaborate with US Border Patrol agents on the border."

The additional 400 troops will be sent from military bases in Fort Worth and Houston.
