VJ Day: 70 Years On

On August 14, 1945, the act of dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki finally forced the Japanese to surrender, bringing an end to World War Two.

The next day became VJ Day, or Victory Over Japan Day.

On that day, in a speech broadcast on radio, King George VI said:

"... remember all who have laid down their lives, and all who have endured the loss of those they love."

In 2015, Forces News reporter Tim Cooper looked back at how Britain marked 70 years since that momentous day.
