VJ Day: The POW

To mark 75 years since the surrender of Japan and thus the end of the Second World War, we are revisiting some interviews with people who have a personal connection to Victory Over Japan Day or as it is more commonly known, VJ Day.

British servicemen who were captured and became Far East prisoners of war (POWs) were held in appalling, crowded conditions in Japanese Labour camps, often with insufficient medicines or food and under the constant threat of beatings.

In 2015, Frank Williams, the son of a former POW, spoke to Forces News about his book detailing his father's experiences.
