Military horse who led late Queen's funeral procession is awarded animal OBE

A military horse who played a crucial role as the nation mourned Queen Elizabeth II has been honoured with the "animals' OBE," officially known as the PDSA Order of Merit.
This award celebrates animals that have shown exceptional loyalty and service to their owners and society.
Lord Firebrand, better known as Yogi, led the procession of the late Queen's coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.

Yogi retired in December 2023 and is now the 55th recipient of this prestigious accolade, recognising his significant contributions during Royal events.
Known for his calm demeanour and reliability, Yogi served as the Parade Commander's horse during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
Later that same year, he had the solemn duty of leading the procession carrying the late monarch's coffin for her lying in state.
Throughout his impressive career, Yogi participated in numerous high-profile events, including the State Opening of Parliament, state visits, and Trooping the Colour.
Captain Amy Cooper, who rode Yogi in the lead-up to the Queen's funeral, praised him, saying: "Yogi is the only horse I would trust to deliver such a high-profile parade under scrutiny and pressure.
"He is always the first choice for any parade commander."
Jan McLoughlin, director general of the PDSA charity, highlighted the special bond between Yogi and his riders, saying: "The unique emotional support he provided throughout his career showcased the special relationship between humans and animals.
"Yogi instilled a sense of trust and belief that went beyond his general role, particularly during high-pressure moments like Operation London Bridge."
As the UK's largest veterinary charity, the PDSA is celebrating 10 years of honouring outstanding animals with this medal.
