HMS Dauntless takes the lead on Carrier Strike Group 25 as sun sets over Red Sea

Dauntless takes the lead for Suez transit on CSG25

HMS Dauntless has posted an update about her deployment on Carrier Strike Group 25, sharing striking video images of her journey along the Suez Canal and into the Red Sea.

She was the lead vessel guiding aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales as the fleet ventured into one of the most dangerous shipping areas in the world.

CSG25 is now moving eastwards as it continues its eight-month mission.

HMS Dauntless sailed with HMS Richmond, Norwegian frigate HNoMS Roald Amundsen, Canadian frigate HMCS Ville de Québec and Spanish frigate ESPS Méndez Núñez.

On high alert, they carefully escorted HMS Prince of Wales through a narrow stretch of sea notorious for attacks on shipping by Yemen's Houthi rebels.

HMS Dauntless' flight department was loading and unloading a Wildcat helicopter with Martlet missiles every 12 hours as a precaution.

Earlier on the deployment, CSG25 teamed up with the Italian Navy for Exercise Med Strike, amassing an allied force of 21 warships, three submarines, 41 fast jets, 19 helicopters, 10 patrol aircraft and 8,000 personnel in the Ionian Sea.

The deployment, also known as Operation Highmast, involves around 4,500 British military personnel, including nearly 600 RAF and 900 soldiers alongside 2,500 Royal Navy sailors and Royal Marines.

The final destination on this epic voyage is the Indo Pacific region.
