From Our Archive: Central Flying School Of The RAF 1966

We've unearthed another gem from the Forces TV archives, this time a 1966 introduction to The Royal Air Force's Central Flying School.

If clipped accents, patronising tones and a slice of military life from half a century ago is your thing then this film is right up your street.

Presented no less than by Desmond Llewelyn, best known of course for playing Q for three decades in numerous James Bond films, it focuses on the work of the world's longest operating flight school.

Started in 1912 at RAF Upavon in Wiltshire it's now based at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire.

At the time when our film was made however it was sited at the now defunct RAF Little Rissington in Gloucestershire.

Anyway, sit back and enjoy half an hour of those magnificent men, their moustaches and their flying machines.
