International frigates to descend on Glasgow for UK-led Exercise Joint Warrior

Glasgow is set to welcome six frigates from across Europe as the UK prepares to lead a major international military exercise.
Exercise Joint Warrior is a bi-annual UK-led multinational war exercise that usually takes place in spring and autumn.
Frigates from Belgium, Holland, Germany, Poland and the UK will arrive at King George V Docks until the exercise begins on 22 October, with one German and one French vessel stopping in at Hunterston before joining.

Exercise Joint Warrior is set to run from 22 October 22 until 2 November, with Glasgow serving as the starting point for many of the vessels.

Overall, the exercise will involve 19 warships and submarines from 10 nations, as well as 20 aircraft and around 2,000 military personnel.
The exercise is designed for Nato allies to reenact possible war scenarios.
Participating nations this time include Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, the UK and the US.
While the point of arrival for many of the vessels is in Scotland, the exercise is in fact co-ordinated from the south coast of England by the Joint Tactical Exercise Planning Staff (JTEPS) at His Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth.
All three branches of the UK Armed Forces take part in the exercise that stretches across the UK, with most of the 'action' concentrated in Scotland.
