Army Bomb Disposal Team Removes Unexploded Mortar Shell

The British Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team conducted a controlled explosion on Sunday, Glossop Police has said.

Soldiers from the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) were called to the market town of Glossop, in Derbyshire, following the discovery of an unexploded mortar shell.

On Saturday, the local police and Glossop Mountain Rescue were alerted about the discovery by a member of the public.

The device, which was later identified as an unexploded mortar shell, was found on open moorland above the town.

Members of the RLC arrived at the site on Saturday evening and carried out a controlled explosion the next day.

In a post shared on Facebook, Glossop Police urged members of the public not to touch similar devices and to get in touch with them should they find one.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search operators are bomb disposal and high-risk search experts who serve with the Royal Logistic Corps.

They serve in a variety of roles both in the United Kingdom and overseas.
