Royal Navy Crew Have 'Priceless' Encounter With Pod Of Dolphins

A speedboat crew who are working on board the Royal Navy's HMS Albion experienced a "priceless" moment while on patrol in the Asia-Pacific.

The team managed to capture the moment a pod of dolphins came to say hello and put on a display swimming alongside the speedboat.

HMS Albion is currently on deployment in the waters of the Asia Pacific.

Seeing dolphins swimming along the side of boats is known as 'Bow Riding'.

It is not uncommon for people at sea to witness, but why do dolphins enjoy putting on a display for those onboard?

The reason is mainly unknown, however, some research does suggest that the dolphins are simply having fun.

They love jumping into the air, cruising through the water at high speed or interacting with other sea life.

Dolphins are known for their fun-loving behaviour and most likely enjoy using the wake from a boat as a speed boost, and they could also enjoy seeing boats and other vessels where they aren’t normally seen.

HMS Albion's Twitter account described the moment as "priceless":
