Two British soldiers have appeared in court after being arrested for brawling in Cape Verde.

The men were travelling to the Falkland Islands when a fault with their plane left them stranded off the north-west coast of Africa.

It is reported they had been drinking before the incident happened, and were arrested by police.

Those involved in the trouble now face disciplinary action.

An Army spokesman said: "We can confirm that two soldiers have appeared in court in Cape Verde and have been fined.

"Anyone found to have fallen short of the Army's high standards will be dealt with administratively and may face sanctions up to and including dismissal."

The RAF transport plane had touched down on Cape Verde for a scheduled re-fuelling stop, but was delayed in taking off again after a technical problem was discovered.
