Driver banned after crash left two men seriously injured in military Land Rover rollover on A43
A driver who pulled across the path of a military Land Rover Defender travelling in convoy on the A43 has been given a suspended prison sentence after causing the vehicle to crashed and roll, seriously injuring the two men inside.
Crenguta Aruxandei, 44, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court after admitting two counts of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving over the collision near Hulcote on 10 January.
The Land Rover driver, 36, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a suspected fractured back. His 31-year-old passenger was taken to hospital with a significant head injury.
The court heard the crash happened at about 08:35 when Aruxandei was driving a grey Audi Q2 in the outside lane of the A43 dual carriageway.
As she approached the junction for Hulcote, she pulled across in front of a green military Land Rover Defender with a trailer which was travelling in convoy in the inside lane.
The Land Rover driver took evasive action to avoid a collision, but as the vehicle moved into the outside lane it hit the central reservation, flipped and rolled multiple times.
The driver was taken to University Hospital Coventry, while his passenger was taken to Northampton General Hospital.
Aruxandei had initially elected to go to trial at Northampton Magistrates' Court, but changed her plea at crown court on 5 February before a jury had been sworn.
As well as the suspended sentence, she was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to take an extended test before getting her licence back.
She was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
The lead investigator, Detective Constable Eleanor Hudson, said the collision had been "completely avoidable".
