Edinburgh Garden Of Remembrance Opens

A special service has been held in Edinburgh to mark the official opening of the city’s Garden of Remembrance.

Hundreds of people gathered in Princes Street Gardens to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Thousands of crosses have been planted in the Field of Remembrance next to the Scott Monument to pay tribute to current and former service personnel.

Glasgow and Inverness will also host Gardens of Remembrance organised by Legion Scotland. 

The Garden of Remembrance is open until Sunday 12 November.

Frank Ross, Edinburgh’s Lord Provost said: 

"There was a significant crowd... I think the citizens of Edinburgh are now getting to the stage of recognising that this is the starting point of a period of remembrance and reflection."

Hundreds more are expected to visit the gardens over the coming days to pay their respects to those who gave their lives for their country.
