Funeral Of Red Arrows Engineer Takes Place

The funeral of Corporal Jonathan Bayliss, a Red Arrows mechanical engineer who died after a Hawk T1 jet crashed at RAF Valley last month, has taken place at Lincoln Cathedral.

The 41-year-old was given a full military funeral, which was attended by hundreds of RAF personnel.

Cpl Bayliss served for 17 years and had been a member of the Red Arrows team since January 2016.

The engineer was a passenger on a routine flight from RAF Valley to RAF Scampton when he was killed in a crash in Anglesey, north Wales.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Following the death of Cpl Bayliss, Sergeant Will Allen, who was a close colleague and the leader of the Red Arrows’ group of travelling support engineers, known as the Circus, for 2018 said:

“Jon had the ability to motivate and inspire a team and those around him – no matter the rank, role or person.

The Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson also paid tribute to the engineer at the time of his death saying:

"It’s clear from his colleagues that he was an incredibly skilled engineer and held in the highest regard as a teammate, a friend, and a shining example of what the British Armed Forces stand for."

Pilot Flight Lieutenant David Stark survived the crash in north Wales, and has since been released from hospital.
