German Wartime Parachute Mine Caught By Fishing Boat

A Second World War German parachute mine has been safely detonated on off the South Devon Coast after it was dragged up in the nets of a fishing vessel.

The Royal Navy, police, and coastguard were called in to find a safe way to detonate the mine on Saturday.

The mine was hauled up by Brixham fishing crews after it got caught in their trawler net.

The explosive disposal team then took the mine out into the middle of Torbay waters where it was safely detonated.

It is thought the weapon was been dropped by the Germans around 1939.
