Two military grenades and "unidentified chemicals" have been found by police in Suffolk.

More than 60 properties were evacuated in Lowestoft on Sunday afternoon, while a bomb disposal team was also called to the scene.

Officers from Suffolk Constabulary made the discovery during a pre-planned arrest in Normanhurst Close just before 1pm.

The force said:

"On arrival at the premises, police conducted a search of the property and recovered a quantity of unidentified chemicals and two military grenades inside the premises."

A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and remains in police custody.
