HMS Queen Elizabeth visits Liverpool while partner ship tackles Arctic drills
The Royal Navy's Queen Elizabeth-class carriers have had very different ends to the week.
HMS Queen Elizabeth, the service flagship, soaked up the Merseyside sun on Thursday after docking in Liverpool.
All 280 metres of the warship stretched across the Cruise Terminal, but it was a very different outlook for HMS Prince of Wales.
Youngest in service, but the slightly larger of the two vessels – a detail observed in the ship's Twitter profile – HMS Prince of Wales is working with Royal Marines in the bitterly cold Arctic.
As part of duties as NATO's Maritime High Readiness Force command ship, the aircraft carrier is leading a task force on the large-scale Norwegian-led Exercise Cold Response.
It involves 35,000 troops from 28 nations operating together to show how a unified multilateral force would defend Norway and Europe's northern flank from a modern adversary.
It's not as if the sister ship hasn't been busy in recent times.
