The Royal Navy's HMS Shoreham is undergoing a "short period of maintenance" in Bahrain.

The Navy said the Sandown-class minehunter has been in "almost non-stop use" since the turn of the year.

The ship's current crew are also set to be replaced after "five intensive months of operations" in the Gulf.

Crew 4 from the 1st Mine Countermeasures Squadron were deployed to the ship at the start of the year, working as part of the US-UK task group in the region and training with the Kuwaiti Navy.

The ship is undergoing maintenance at the UK Naval Support Facility in Bahrain and once complete, will return to sea to continue operations in the region, the Navy said.

HMS Shoreham is in the Gulf as part of Operation Kipion, working on mine counter-measures and helping to ensure the safe flow of merchant vessels.
