HMS St Albans Arrives In London For International Women's Day
HMS St Albans has arrived in London on Tuesday for a three-day visit to the Capital, which includes a series of events to mark International Women's Day.
Setting off from Portsmouth, the Type 23 Frigate came alongside at West India Quay passing Kent and the Thames Barrier.
Commanding Officer Chris Ansell said:
"What an amazing experience, it's a great way to enter the Capital. (...) We got a lot of support, the Thames pilots were excellent and they are used to warships coming in."
With a Ships Company of 190 on board, HMS St Albans is longer than a football pitch and has visited ports in 10 different countries.
In January, she escorted a Russian aircraft carrier along the English Channel on its return from Syria, and last month she helped during a Royal Navy training in Norway.
Since her last visit to London two years ago, she’s been on operations in the Gulf and since the start of 2017 she’s been Britain’s on-call frigate at 24-hours’ notice to move.
After this short break, she’ll then sail up to Scotland for more training – on standby for duties wherever she’s needed next.
