Armed Forces widows and their dependents are being inspired to become self-employment entrepreneurs through a new scheme.

All four widow associations (War Widows, Royal Navy and Royal Marines Widows, Army Widows, Royal Airforce Widows Association) support the X-Forces’ initiative to offer specialised training to those who have lost loved ones to military service.

The bespoke four-day course will provide mentoring and training in core skills - from marketing to financial and legal advice.

As well as providing the necessary skills, it is hoped the courses help to build confidence and create a community, so service widows and their dependents can rebuild their lives after a bereavement.

Lady Dannatt is the patron for the project, and spoke to Forces News' Kate Gerbeau:

"A very, very important scheme" - Lady Dannatt.
