Models For Heroes: Helping Recover From Mental Scars

Model making is helping military veterans recover from the mental scars of war with sessions being run by a veteran of Afghanistan in Plymouth. 

It is being rolled out as a therapy for military veterans in recovery centres and care homes around the country.

The concept began this year in the USA, where it was found to support clinical treatment for PTSD and is used in occupational therapy.

Mark Stonelake lost his leg in Afghanistan with 3 Commando Brigade and is now an ambassador for Models for Heroes.

He said: "I've given it a go... it's great, you can lose yourself, minutes turn to hours."

"I've seen people lose themselves in this for hours and hours.

"It's things like anxiety, stress, depression; it just takes their mind away from those things, they have a project to focus on."
