Navy Plane Crash: Two Injured As Vintage Aircraft Sustains 'Significant Damage'

Two people have been injured after a vintage Royal Navy aircraft made a "forced landing" on Cambridgeshire farmland.

A passenger on board the Hawker Sea Fury and its pilot are both in a stable condition after suffering minor injuries.

The aircraft sustained "significant damage" in the incident, which took place on Tuesday afternoon in the village of Harston, as well as a fuel leak.

An Imperial War Museum Duxford spokesperson added that the Hawker Sea Fury was on a routine flight from Duxford airfield, before being forced to undertake a "false landing" in the field around five miles away.

"An IWM Duxford fire team with specialist equipment and knowledge assisted Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service at the scene," they said.

Members of the East of England Ambulance Service were also called to the scene after receiving reports of a plane crash.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) will carry out an investigation into the incident.

The Hawker Sea Fury is a propeller-drive fighter aircraft which entered operational service in 1947.
