Royal Navy Explodes 15 Wartime Bombs On Public Beach

The Royal Navy has exploded 15 wartime bombs found on a beach in Somerset.

The Bomb Disposal Team was called in after members of the public discovered a number of "different calibre shells" in a rock pool that had been exposed by low tides at Klive Beach.

While waiting for the bomb team, a cordon was put in place and local coastguards found more shells - bringing the total to 15.

Royal Navy personnel dug a hole on the beach where they placed the shells before carrying out a controlled explosion.

Footage from the explosion shows a plume of sand flying high into the air.

The beach was reopened shortly after 17:50 BST on Saturday.

A statement from HM Coastguard Watchet said: "If you find anything suspicious on the shoreline we want to remind you, do not pick it up, but instead record the location using a grid reference."
