New Head Of The Royal Navy Nursing Service
The nursing branch of the Royal Navy has appointed a new head.
During a ceremony onboard HMS Victory, the former head of Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service (QARNNS), Captain Steve Spencer, welcomed his successor Captain Alison Hofman.
Captain Hofman has spent her entire career in the service and expressed her excitement at rising to the top.
"I have been a QARNNS for my whole career. I joined the nursing service as a student nurse. So for me now to be leading the organisation is a real thrill"

Around 300 personnel work for QARNNS. They divide their time between working in NHS hospitals and on deployments.
They are deployed on operations across the world, where they deal with a wide range of medical situations, from civilian and military patients in the UK, to casualties of war and conflict.
Leading Naval Nurse Chelsie Rice said the role offered the best of both worlds.
"I get to work in a civilian hospital and keep my skills up to date - and I get to do all the good stuff - being on board ships - and hopefully other things as well"

As part of the ceremony a QARNNS plaque was presented to the Commanding Officer of HMS Victory to join a collection of crests that represent other parts of the Royal Navy.
Lieutenant Tom Borrough said it was a significant moment.
"What this ship means to the Navy - To have us represented here is really important"
