North Korea Labelled 'Inappropriate' For Firing Missiles During Pandemic

South Korea has called the firing of two suspected ballistic missiles by North Korea as "very inappropriate" amid the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missiles were fired from the city of Wonsan on the North's east coast and landed in water between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.

North Korea has fired a series of missiles and artillery shells in recent weeks in an apparent attempt to upgrade its military capability following deadlocked nuclear talks with the United States.

The talks have stalled since the breakdown of a second summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump in Vietnam in early 2019.

Last week, Pyongyang said Mr Trump sent a personal letter to Mr Kim that included a wish to maintain good relations and an offer of cooperation in the fight against COVID-19.
